HomeMy WebLinkAbout04 APPROVE PLANS & SPECS FOR PEPPERTREE PARK BOCCE BALL COURTSMEETING DATE: JANUARY 21, 2014 TO: JEFFREY C. PARKER, CITY MANAGER FROM: DAVID A. WILSON, DIRECTOR, PARKS AND RECREATION SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR PEPPERTREE PARK BOCCE BALL COURTS SUMMARY: This project includes construction and installation of two (2) synthetic turf Bocce Ball Courts in Peppertree Park. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 14 -04, approving plans and specifications for the construction of the Peppertree Park Bocce Ball Courts and authorize the City Clerk to advertise for bids. FISCAL IMPACT: Construction of the Peppertree Park Bocce Ball Courts is included in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2013 -2014. Adequate funding has been secured through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Total estimated cost for the project is $78,383. ENVIRONMENTAL: This project is Categorically Exempt pursuant to Section 15301 (Class 1) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN: This project advances Goal A of the City of Tustin Strategic, Plan regarding Economic and Neighborhood Development by providing opportunities for expanded recreational opportunities. BACKGROUND: The Community Services Commission has identified the construction of the Peppertree Park Bocce Ball Courts as a priority during FY2013 -2014 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The construction of Bocce Ball Courts at Peppertree Park will provide local families, senior citizens, and Bocce Ball enthusiasts a quality facility in which to enjoy the recreational activity. Improvements will include: two (2) ADA Accessible courts, perimeter pavers, seating areas, shade opportunities, and landscape enhancements. The courts will also provide a recreational opportunity for residents who rent the adjacent picnic shelter for parties and other family events. First Street, and; WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Services Department has presented plans and specifications for the construction of said works; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications presented by the Parks and Recreation Services Department are hereby approved as the plans and specifications for Bocce Ball Court at Peppertree Park; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEDthat the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise as required by law for the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for the completion of work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications.
