FROM:
SUBJECT:
HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL
WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER ~
AMBULANCE SERVICE CONTRACT
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council authorize the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) to extend its
current contract for ambulance service in Tustin with Doctor's Ambulance Service until
no later than July 1, 1998.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact on the City since ambulance services are covered by user fees.
BACKGROUND:
OCFA conducts the request for proposal (RFP) process and administers the contract for
ambulance services on behalf of the City. Last year, OCFA and all ambulance providers
in Orange CounW agreed to extension of contracts until a study was completed regarding
ambulance service zones. The City of Tustin agreed to the extension. Subsequent to that
decision, OCFA staff prepared a report recommending that OCFA take over ambulance
services. The OCFA Board of Directors rejected the recommendation and directed its
staff to complete the RFP process for private ambulance providers.
OCFA staff is proceeding with the RFP process for a new contract to provide ambulance
services for all cities served by OCFA. The City of Tustin's ambulance provider, Doctor's
Ambulance Service, has concurred with an extension of its current contract up to July 1,
1998.
Upon completion of the RFP process, a recommendation will be submitted to the City
Council regarding which company should be granted a new contract for ambulance
services.
