LEAVES OF ABSENCE REQUESTS - Rockwood and Snowden
SUMMARY: AUTHORIZE UNPAID LEAVE OF ABSENCE OF MORE THAN
THIRTY DAYS FOR KATHERINE HAMLING-SNOWDEN AND CHRISTINE
ROCKWOOD.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council authorize the City Manager to grant leaves of absence to
Christine Rockwood and Katherine Hamling-Snowden per Section 8, H(b) of th'e Rules
and Regulations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Both of the leaves requested are leaves without pay so the fiscal impact is not
significant as the cost involved is continuing their benefits for 12 weeks which is
what each employee is entitled to under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
BACKGROUND'
Christine Rockwood's leave of absence will extend until November 12, 1997, at
which time she will be expected to come back as a full time employee only in her
current classification of Account Clerk. Christine has been out on disability since
February, but is requesting additional unpaid leave upon release from disability on
September 12, 1997.

Katherine Snowden has been out since August 11, 1997 from an industrial injury she
suffered in 1990. She was disabled for nine months previously in 1995-96, returned
to work and is now requesting an 'additional five months due to complications of the
same injury. This leave will be contingent upon her release by her doctor to return to
work with no more restrictions than she previously had and with no additional need
for time off for physical therapy. Ms. Snowden's current assignment is secretarial
support for the Chief of Police.
