HENLEY, DIRECTOR, PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: HERITAGE WAY PARK NAMING BACKGROUND: The 'development process for the five-acre neighborhood park has been on an extremely fast track. The naming of the park has waited until the landscape palette was completed. This was done because Tustin is "The City of Trees" and has a long history of naming its parks after trees common to each site. DISCUSSION: The City's park naming policy states that the Parks and Recreation Commission is to develop recommended names and forward them to the Council for selection. The Parks and Recreation Commission met on September 18, 1997, and, by motion, selected the following naming options: 1. Heritage Way Park: The name identifies the geographic location ofthe park. 2. Palm Court Park: A large palm court is planned as the focal Point for the park. 3. Sycamore Park: The landscape plan originally identified several Sycamore trees to be planted in the new park. After closer review, the decision was made to delete this species fi.om the plan due to high maintenance concerns. As such, staff is suggesting that this name not be considered. RECOMMENDATION/ACTION: Pleasure of the Council.
