DISCUSSION:
The Tustin High School will be hosting the second annual Tiller
Trick or Treat event on Friday, October 31. The event's focus is
on creating a safe and pleasurable Halloween experience for Tustin
Children. Last year, over 1,500 children attended the event.
The city Council contributed $2,000 to the event in 1996. Event
organizers Tim O'Donoghue and Mayra Mendoza are seeking the same
contribution this year.
The attached letter details the Tiller Trick or Treat event and the
high school's request for funding. A representative from Tustin
High will be in attendance at the September 2, 1997, Council
meeting to offer specifics on the event and answer any questions of
Council.

Dear Mr. Huston:
As you already know, Tustin High School in concert with the City of Tustin put
on the Tiller Trick-or-Treat last year. We were extremely successful in our goal
of serving the children of Tustin. We also promoted school and community unity
by having clubs, sport teams, and interested students participate. We transformed
Tustin High School into a miniature neighborhood where children could go door
to door for candy.
Even though we had many donations of time and effort, it was still not enough.
Without the generous gift of $2000 by the Tustin City Council, we would not
have made it. We cannot tell you how much it was appreciated. As you know,
the Tiller Trick-or-Treat was a tremendous success, one need only watch Tustin
Cable and watch the re-runs. There were over 1500 children that we were able
to serve.
This year will prove to be as successful, as we are planning to expand to allow
for more children. That is why we are asking that you may allow us to have this
opportunity again by granting another gift. We are at this time requesting that
you allow us to come before you and present our plan at the earliest possible
council meeting. Our hope is that together we may achieve another successful
and safe event.
Thank you,
Tim O'Donoghue
