AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE DEMOLITION OF THE CASE
SWAYNE BUILDING, 1021 EDINGER AVENUE (CIP NO. 700131 DEMO)
SUMMARY: In response to the Agency's call for bids, W~dliam Olson has submitted the low bid in the]
amount of $47,000 for the demolition and disposal of the vacant warehouse building located at 1021]
Edinger Avenue on property previously purchased by the Agency in conjunction with the Newport[
Avenue Extension Project.. · I
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency, at their meeting of July 7,
1997, award a contract to W'flliam Olson in the amount of $47,000.00 for the demolition of the vacant
warehouse build~g located at 1021 Edinger Avenue owned by the Tustin Comnmnit3, Redevelopment
Agency.
This demolition project will be funded fi.om the 1996-97 FY Capital Improvement Project (CIP)
budget.
BACKGROUND
The project consists of the demolition and disposal of the vamnt warehouse building owned by the
Tustin Commmity Redevelopment Agency. All slabs and paved surfaces located at the site will remain.
This project is the demolition of a vacant warehouse owned by the Tustin Community Redevelopment
Agency. The property was acquired by the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency from the Case
Swayne Company in Jaxluary 1995. A large portion of thi.q property will be used for the future
ali~ment for the Newport Avenue extension project. The process of the removal and disposal of
asbestos from the vacant buildings has been completed.
Four (4) bids were received on June 16, 1997. The bids are summarized on the following table.

Staff is recommending that the 'firmof Wffiiam Olson be awarded the contract for the demolition and
disposal of the building located on thi~q site based upon his bid on the base bid's scope of work. The
base bid's scope of work includes demolition and removal of the lmilding, a portion of the site fence,
and pole sign. Alternate 1 includes removal of all paving, slabs and other surface impr~ ovements.
Alternate 2 provides for the removal of some site fencing, repair of remaining site fencing and the
installation of a new security fence around the perimeter of the property. Due to their high bid costs,
alternate bids 1 and 2 are not being comidered at this time. An agreement will entered into with
another vendor for the lease, rather than the purchase, of a perimeter security fence. A spreadsheet
providing details on the bids is attached.
The references and the Contractor's State License of W~flliam Olson have been checked and are
appropriate for the subject project.
