HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/WATER DIVISION FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS - WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT ON 17TM STREET AT SR-55 FREEWAY (PROJECT NO. 600127) SUMMARY: This action consistS of the acceptance of work and aUthOrization of the recordation of the Notice of Completion for the t 7t~ Street Water Main (Phase II of HI). RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Tustin City Council, at their regular meeting of April 7, 1997, adopt Resolution No. 97-27 accepting said work and authorizing the recordation of the Notice of Completion. Assuming no claims or stop payments notices are filed, it is further recommended that the City Council authorize payment of the 10% retention, amount of' $20,299.29, thirty-five days after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion. This amount, together with previous payments of $182,693.57 represents 100% of the final contract. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION The 17th Street water main is the second of a three-phased project that was begun and budgeted for as a CIP in Fiscal Year 1995/96. Fairhaven Avenue, the first phase, is complete; and work on Santa Clara Avenue is expected to begin the week of May 12, 1997. Due to the nature and complexity of these phases, it is anticipated that construction will continue into Fiscal Year 1997/98. 'Caltrans Will reimburse the City 100% of a Contract Change Order No. I (CCO #1) in the amount of $27,802.86. Includes Design of all Phases, Phase I Construction, and work by City forces. FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS - WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT ON 17TM STREET AT SR-55 FREEWAY (PROJECT NO. 600127) April 7, 1997 Page 2 Though a utility agreement approved by City Council on June 19, 1995, Caltrans will be reimbursing the City for 78.2% of'the project cost. Also, some additional work required by Caltrans will be reimbursed at 100%. All water mains are being replaced using 8, 10 or 12-inch ductile-iron pipe. These new mains will help to provide a more substantial water supply and circulation in these areas. Tim D. Day Construction, Inc. having a contract with the City of Tustin to construct the hereinafter described public work and improvement; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has duly certified to the construction and completion of said public improvements hereinafter mentioned in a manner satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Tustin: and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said contractor has completed said public improvement hereinafter more particularly described in accordance with the provisions of the contract documents and the Notice of Completion, and acceptance of said public work and improvement should be filed and payment of the balance due said contract authorized in accordance with the contract documents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that said public work and improvement is found to be complete, and the same is hereby acCepted. Said public work and improvement is more particularly described as follows: Water Main Replacement on 17th Street at SR-55 Freeway (Project No. 600127) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer of the City of Tustin is hereby authorized to execute and file a Notice of Completion for the acceptance of said public works and improvement described herein as required by law.
