CALL TO ORDER
The Workshop was called to order by Mayor Kennedy at 7:03 P.M
Council Chambers, 300 Centennial Way.

Consultant John Bates
Christine Shingleton gave the background on the Civic Center Expansion.
Mr. Bates, Consultant, made a presentation of the plans for the City Center
Expansion.
It was moved by Edgar, seconded by Hoesterey, to have staff explore places
to move the City Hall employees. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Edgar, seconded by Prescott, to direct staff to come back
with financing plan including hiring of a consultant.
Mr. Huston said that we have the ability to pay for it. We have a
r� $2,000,000 letter of credit from the Irvine Company. Since we will use
Redevelopment Funds, we are not in favor of a lot of constraints about
timing.
The motion carried 5-0.
Councilman Prescott had concerns about the plans that had the City Council'
sitting to the left of the podium, rather than being seated as the Council
presently sits.
Mr. Bates is to bring some alternatives back to the Council. He said the
level of the podium would be reduced.
Councilman Kelly said that he was impressed with the design work but asked
about keeping our Wishing Well. Mr. Bates saidthat they would leave the
Wishing Well where it is if the City Council desires.
It was moved by Prescott _seconded by Edgar, that .the future renderings
include the Wishing Well.
Councilman Prescott asked about the various plaques and trees. Mr. Bates
responded that they will all be retained and saved.
The motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Hoesterev, seconded by Edgar, to adjourn to the next City
Council meeting on May 15, 1989, at 7:57 p.m.
