DATE: April 23, 1992
TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: LONG TERM RECREATIONAL PARKING ON CITY STREETS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
At the March 16, 1992 meeting of the City Council, the Council
requested a report addressing solutions for long-term recreational
vehicle parking on City streets.
Concern was expressed by the Council that there are a small number
of recreational vehicle owners who are mis-using the seventy-two
(72) hour maximum parking limit restriction on City streets. By
moving their recreational vehicles only a few feet in either
direction, these owners are convinced that they are complying with
the Tustin City Code requirements for long-term parking on City
streets.
DISCUSSION:
The Engineering Division staff has investigated the noted subject.
It was found that per the Tustin City Code, Section 5330e, the use
of City streets for the storage of vehicles is prohibited.
Section 5330e of the Tustin City Code further states that:
"No person who owns or has possession, custody or control of
any vehicle shall park, store or cause to be parked or stored
any vehicle upon any street or alley for more than a
consecutive period of seventy-two (72) hours. "Store", for
the purposes of this subsection, is defined as the parking or
leaving unattended any vehicle in one location for a period in
excess of seventy-two (72) hours. The term "one location"
shall include any relocation of such vehicle within a one-half
mile radius of any prior parking location used within the
preceding seventy-two (72) hour period."
The Engineering Division is satisfied that the concerns for long-
term recreational vehicle parking on City streets are adequately
addressed in the aforementioned Tustin City Code section.
This is an information only report and no City Council action is
required.
