TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR P.C.0 CROSS GUTTER AND CURB RETURNS AT
R•1C`- PACIFIC STREET AND SECOND STREET AND PACIFIC STREET AND THIRD
STREET (PROJECT NO. 700105)
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of
April, 6, 1992, award the contract for the subject project to Hardy
& Harper, Inc., of Santa Ana, California, in the amount of
$19,388.00. It is also recommended that the City Council approve
a transfer of $8,850.00 from*the Major Maintenance Program (Project
No. 700001) to this project.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were opened March 31, 1992 for the subject project and six (6)
bids were received as follows:
1. Hardy & Harper, Inc., Santa Ana .................. $19,388.00
2. Damon Construction Co., Carson 23,185.25
3. Grigolla & Sons Construction Co., Inc., Azusa .... 23,414.50
4. L.G.T. Enterprises, Tustin ....................... 24,964.00
5. J.D.C., Upland ................................... 26,052.00
6. Nobest, Inc., Westminster ........................ 32,133.95
The low bid by Hardy & Harper is $4,188.00 above the original
available budget for this project. From the original $15,200.00,
$1,850.00 has already been expended on base map preparation. It is
anticipated that an additional $4,662.00 will be necessary to cover
construction surveying, inspection by the Public Works Department,
contract administration, and possible contingencies involved with
the construction which yields a shortfall of $8,850.00. It is
therefore recommended that $8,850.00 be transferred from the Major
Maintenance Program.(Project No. 700001) to this project in order
to fully fund this work.
This project will provide new curb returns, an access ramp and a
concrete cross gutter at Pacific Street and Second Street and an
access ramp and new curb returns at the western intersection of
Pacific Street and Third Street. It shall be indicated that the
scope of the design was expanded to provide smoother transitions in
joining the existing improvements and ease construction.
