HUSTON, CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: CAR PHONES Councilmembers Prescott and Potts have requested additional information regarding City -owned car phones. The following responds to the requested information: 1. The cities of Irvine and Santa Ana reimburse Councilmembers who incur City -related phone expenses on their personal car phones. 2. Each Councilmember in Yorba Linda is provided a car phone. The City pays the monthly flat rate charge and the Council - member pays all usage charges. 3. Councilmembers in Huntington Beach have the option of having a City -owned car phone. Currently, the Mayor and one Council - member have car phones with all expenses, except personal calls, paid by the City. 4. The County of Orange does not provide car phones to municipal or superior court judges. Car phone bills have been reviewed to determine whether there has been personal use without reimbursement. One Police Captain has made personal calls that required reimbursement after the review was completed. Effective immediately, all car phone bills will be reviewed monthly by the appropriate department head to ensure that any personal use is identified and reimbursement is made to the City.
