HUSTON, CITY MANAGER COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION APPOINTMENT RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council make an appointment to fill a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The City Council has the following options: (a) (b) Advertise to fill the vacancy. Fill the position from the existing list. BACKGROUND: Chris Cormack was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a two year term on July 7, 1994. On July 15, 1996 the terms of Chris Cormack, Ken Eckman and Karen Hillyard expire. However, due to a job transfer, Chris has moved out of the area. Commissioners must reside within the City limits during all times they hold office. Since Chris did not submit a letter of resignation, staff contacted her by registered mail in December, 1995 to request that she submit her resignation. She has not responded to that request. Appointments to the Commission were last made at the July 3, 1995 City Council meeting. During a second ballot for a Commission appointment Ken Eckman, Teri Neal, Ken Royal, and Robert Schultz received the same number of votes. Robert Schultz was selected for the appointment while Ken Eckman was chosen as an alternate. Upon the resignation of. Commissioner Jeannie Jackson,. Ken Eckman was appointed to the Commission. The City Council may choose to advertise to fill the current vacancy or make an appointment from the existing list. At this time Teri Neal and Ken Royal are~ldates.
