PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council make an appointment to fill
a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission. The City Council

(a)
(b)
Advertise to fill the vacancy.
Fill the position from the existing list.
BACKGROUND:
Chris Cormack was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission
for a two year term on July 7, 1994. On July 15, 1996 the terms of
Chris Cormack, Ken Eckman and Karen Hillyard expire. However, due
to a job transfer, Chris has moved out of the area. Commissioners
must reside within the City limits during all times they hold
office.
Since Chris did not submit a letter of resignation, staff contacted
her by registered mail in December, 1995 to request that she submit
her resignation. She has not responded to that request.
Appointments to the Commission were last made at the July 3, 1995
City Council meeting. During a second ballot for a Commission
appointment Ken Eckman, Teri Neal, Ken Royal, and Robert Schultz
received the same number of votes. Robert Schultz was selected for
the appointment while Ken Eckman was chosen as an alternate. Upon
the resignation of. Commissioner Jeannie Jackson,. Ken Eckman was
appointed to the Commission.
The City Council may choose to advertise to fill the current
vacancy or make an appointment from the existing list. At this
time Teri Neal and Ken Royal are~ldates.
