RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council direct staff to advertise to fill a vacancy on the
Cultural Resources Advisory Committee.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding to support the Cultural Resources Advisory Committee is provided
from the General Fund.
BACKGROUND
On November 21, 1995, Warren Lortie, Cultural Resources Advisory
Committee member, submitted his letter of resignation. Mr. Lortie
resigned following the completion of his recent move from Tustin to
Corona Del Mar. Pursuant to Tustin City Code Section 9252(c), all
members of the Committee must reside within the City of Tustin.
Mr. Lortie was appointed to the committee on December 7, 1992 to fill a
position vacated by Richard Edgell. Mr. Lortie was subsequently
reappointed to the Committee in the summer of 1993. The term for this
vacant seat will expire on July 19, 1997.

{ If directed to advertise to fill the vacancy, staff will publish the
".attached notice in the Tustin Weekly for two consecutive weeks
L,(Attachments).. The notice describes the desired and required
qualifications for the position. Because the City of Tustin is
officially recognized as a Certified Local Government (CLG) by the State
Office of Historic Preservation, special consideration must be given to
applicants with expertise in historic preservation-related disciplines.
It is anticipated that Council interviews of interested candidates will
be scheduled for the Council meeting of March 18, 1996.

APPOINTMENT TO THE
CULTUP, AL RESOURCES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The City of Tustin is accepting applications for a vacated seat on
the Cultural Resources Advisory Committee that has a term expiring
on July 19, 1997.
Tustin has provided protection to its historic resources through
the adoption of a Cultural Resources District. The Cultural
Resources District safeguards the heritage of the City by
preserving neighborhoods, structures, sites and features which
reflect elements of the City's cultural, architectural, artistic,
aesthetic, political, social, natural and'engineering heritage.
The City Council has appointed a Cultural Resources Advisory
Committee of five members to provide recommendations on building
and other actiVities.occurring within the District. The Cultural
Resources Committee meets as needed or at least.once per calendar
quarter as requested. The Committee acts in an advisory capacity
to the City Council in matters affecting the Cultural Resources
District and as a liaison between residents in the "Old Town" area
and the City Council. All applicants must reside within the City
of Tustin. It is highly desirable that the candidates reside or do
business in the Cultural Resources District (Old Town Tustin).
Also, the candidates should have demonstrated interest and
knowledge in local history and historical preservation. Special
consideration will be given applicants with an expertise in the
professions of Architecture, Planning, Archeology, History or other
historic preservation-related disciplines.

for filing applications is 12:00 noon on MarCh 7, 1996.

Dear Christine:
This is to notify you that we have completed our move from Tustin to Corona del Mar,
and that I respectfully request you allow me to resign from the Cultural Resources
Advisory Committee. Although I had hoped to continue my obligations and complete the
current term, it is apparent that my schedule and other commitments are not allowing me
sufficient time to fulfill my obligation.
If I can assist in your transition, I will attempt to do so, and again, I apologize for the
inconvenience of my relocation and need to resign.
