WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED OUR THIRD YEAR. MAJOR ACCOlW_PLI SHMENTS 1) ANTI-GRAFFITI POSTER CONTEST TUSTIN PRIDE SPONSORED THE. 3rd ANNUAL POSTER CONTEST IN THE TUSTIN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. WINNERS WERE GIVEN PROCLAMATIONS BY THE CITY COUNCIL AND SCHOOL BOA1RD. THE FIRST PLACE WINNERS EACH RECEIVED TWO DISNEYLAND TICKETS COURTESY OF DISNEYLAND. THE FIRST PLACE POSTERS HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE DISPLAYED FOR 30 DAYS AT THE TUSTIN REHABILITATION CENTER, SENIOR CENTER, MRS. GOOCH'S AND CITY H/%LL. THE TUSTIN REHABILITATION CENTER GAVE EACH FIRST PLACE WINNER A PERSONAL NOTE OF CONGRATULATIONS AND A T-SHIRT. 2) HOLIDAY DECORATIONS/LIgHTS AWARDS 72 AWARDS WERE PRESENTED TO TUSTIN RESIDENTS DURING THE SECOND ANNUAL HOLIDAY DECORATIONS/LIGHTS CONTEST. THE CITY WAS DIVIDED INTO SIX AREJkS SO EACH AREA WOULD HAVE AWARDS. T.E.A.M. SUPPORTED TUSTIN PRIDE BY JUDGING THE APARTMENTS. (714) 573-3000 300 Centennial Way, Tustin, California 92680 1995 Annual Report of the Tustin Pride CQmmittee - PaGe 2 3) SAND BAGS OVER 1200 WERE MADE UP BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS FROM THE 4 H, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB, BOY SCOUTS AND CHURCH GROUPS. THE SAND BAGS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE FOR RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES DURING THE COMING RAINY SEASON. 4) SNIPE SIGNS THE COMMITTEE HELPED TO REDUCE UNSIGHTLY AND ILLEGAL SNIPE SIGNS THROUGHOUT THE CITY WITH THE HELP OF SERGEANT NANCY RIZZO OF THE TUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT. 5) GARAGE SALE INFORMATION SHEET A GARAGE SALE FLYER WAS DEVELOPED IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH, TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE LEGALITIES OF GARAGE SALES AND GARAGE SALE SIGNS. 6) GRAFFITI REMOVAL INFORMATION SHEET 16,000 ANTI-GRAFFITI BROCHURES WERE SENT TO THE TUSTIN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO ALL PARENTS IN THE DISTRICT. 7) TUSTIN PRIDE BRQOHURE WE DEVELOPED A NEW TUSTIN PRIDE BROCHURE AND GAINED AUTHORIZATION TO USE THE ARTICLE ~BROKEN WINDOWS" IN THE BROCHURE AND FOR REPRINTS. 8) SHOPPING CARTS WE MET WITH LEADERS OF THE GROCERY INDUSTRY IN NOVEMBER TO DEVELOP AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON STRAY AND ABANDONED SHOPPING CARTS. WE WILL BE MONITORING THE SUCCESS OF THIS.PROGRAM TO DETERMINE IF FURTHER ACTION IS NEEDED. ALL STORES WILL USE BAG STUFFERS TO NOTIFY THE PUBLIC THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL TO REMOVE SHOPPING CARTS FROM THE PARKING AREA. 9) NISSQN/BROWNING SURPLUS SALE THE PROPERTY HAS UNDERGONE A SIGNIFICANT TRANSFORMATION FROM AN UNSIGHTLY UNPRODUCTIVE AREA TO A PROPERTY IN WHICH THE NEIGHBORHOOD CAN TAKE PRIDE. 10) TUSTIN CfN~JNITY FOLTNI1ATION WE RECEIVED PERMISSION TO USE THE TUSTIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO PROCESS DONATIONS FOR THE TUSTIN PRIDE. WE BAVE A BALANCE OF $125 ON DEPOSIT. 11) EL CAMINO, BETWEEN RED HILL /~ NEWPORT; WITH THE HELP OF THE FIELD SERVICES DEPARTMENT, WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE TREES PLANTED ON EL CAMINO IN FRONT OF THE HIGH SCHOOL AND SOUND WALL. 12) PASADENA $TP~EET HAD CAL TRANS CUT WEEDS AND PLANT FLOWERS AT A LOT ON PASADENA BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND STREETS. 13) FREEWAY LANDSQAPIN~ CONTRIBUTED INPUT ON THE I-5/SR55 LANDSCAPING WITH THE HELP OF OFFICER JOHN MIRACHI. 14) PUBLIO INFORMATIQN WE HAVE A MONTHLY COLUMN IN THE TUSTINNEWS TO KEEP THE PUBLIC INFORMED OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMITTEE. 1995 Annual Report of ~he Tu$~in Pride Committee - P~qe 3 15) HQMEOWNERA$$OC. IATIQN$ SENT INFORMATION TO TUSTIN HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS TWICE ON TUSTIN PRIDE, INCLUDING GARAGE SALE INFORMATION AND ANTI-GRAFFITI INFORMATION. 16) OPEN HOUSE IN SEPTEMBER WE HAD AN OPEN HOUSE AT THE SENIOR CENTER WITH DISPLAYS OF THE COM~4ITTEE'S WORK. 37) TREECY~ '96 FIVE LARGE BINS WERE FILLED WITH OVER 1000 CHRISTMAS TREES. 1996 LEADERSHIP NEW OFFICERS WERE ELECTED AT' THE JANUARY 16,1996 MEETING.
