HUSTON, CITY MANAGER OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL GRAD NITE FUNDING REQUEST Mayor Potts has requested that this subject be agendized for City Council discussion. Valerie Crabill Chief Deputy City Clerk 2: MEMOSPCV January 26, 1996 Mayor Jim Potts Tustin City-Council City of Tustin 300 Centennial Way Tustin, CA 92680 FEB - 8 ~ss¢ Dear Mayor Potts, The Tustin High School Grad Nite Committee is currently making plans for our 10th annual graduation night party. Last year the council generously donated $3000.00 for the event. Your support over the years is greatly appreciated by the thousands of parents and graduates. Grad Nite is more than a party--it is an event designed to provide graduating seniors a chance to celebrate in an alcohol and drug free environment. The party lasts from 9:30 PM until dawn and includes many activities and prizes. Our goal is to have all graduating seniors attend the event. , Graduation night tragedies have been happening in our society for decades. These tragedies have been virtually eliminated in Tustin as a result of the Grad Nite party. By keeping our graduates safe, we are also ensuring the safety and welfare of our community. Our Grad Nite party would not be possible without the donations from the' community. The City of Tustin has been very generous in the past and this year we would like to ask the city for a donation of $4000.00. This support is very important for our program. Our request represents an increase of $1000.00 over last year's donation. Due to a decrease in the size of the graduating class our ticket sales income is projected to decrease by nearly $2000.00. We are increasing ticket prices this year but are still faced with the $2000.00 shortfall. We are counting on the city to help us. We would like to be included on the agenda for the City Council Meeting for February 19, 1996. If you have any questions, please contact me at (714) 838-4648. Sincerely, Grad Nite '96
