HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING· DIVISION SUBJECT: REHABILITATION OF TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURTS, SOUTHWEST CORNER OF SAN JUAN STREET AND ORANGE STREET RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that if the City Council wishes to contribute to the rehabilitation of the outdoor basketball courts at Tustin High School that staff be directed to negotiate a Construction Cost Sharing and Joint Use Agreement with the Tustin Unified School District. FISCAL IMPACT Upon execution of a Construction Cost Sharing and Joint Use Agreement the Redevelopment Agency will be requested to adopt a resolution of benefit and appropriate the necessary funds. DISCUSSION The Public Works Department has investigated the existing condition of the outdoor basketball courts at Tustin High School and formulated the following opinion of the probable construction cost to rehabilitate the courts to a suitable playing surface. I . Crack seal approximately 2500' L.F. @ $1.10/L.F. $ 2,750 . Overlay courts with 1" asphalt overlay (25,272 square feet) $ 5,110 3. Restripe $ 1,500 . Replace 12 backboards, hoops/nets @ 600 each $ 7,200 TOTAL $16,560 A request will also be made to Southern California Edison to upgrade the existing street lights adjacent to the courts on San Juan and Orange Streets from 5800 lumens to 9500 lumens. Any additional on-site security lighting the school district determines is necessary will remain their responsibility. Tim D.
