TUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL GRAD NITE FUNDING REQUEST
RECOMMENDATION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
BACKGROUND:
At the February 20, 1996 City Council meeting, Mr. Pete Seitz,
representing the Tustin High School Grad Nite Committee,
requested the City Council consider donating $4,000 to the
annual graduation night party.
The City Council requested that Mr. Seitz contact the Tustin
Public Schools Foundation for funding prior to consideration by
the City Council. As of this date, staff has not received a
response from Mr'. Seitz regarding funding from the Tustin
Public Schools Foundation. Staff recommends continuance of
this item if no response is received by March 4th.

Dear Mayor Potts,
The Tustin High School Grad Nite Committee is currently making plans for our 10th
annual graduation night party. Last year the council generously donated $3000.00 for
the event. Your support over the years is greatly appreciated by the thousandS of
parents and graduates.
Grad Nite is more than 'a party--it is an event designed to provide graduating seniors a
chance to celebrate in an alcohol and drug free environment. The party lasts from
9:30 PM until dawn and includes many activities and prizes. Our goal is to have all
graduating seniors attend the event.
Graduation night tragedies have been happening in our society for decades. These
tragedies have been virtually eliminated in Tustin as a result of the Grad Nite party. By
keeping our graduates safe, we are also ensuring the safety and welfare of our
community.
'Our Grad Nite party would not be possible without the donations from the community.
The City of Tustin has been Very generous in the past and this year we would like to
ask the city for a donation of $4000.00. This support is very important for our program.
Our request represents an increase of $1000.00 over last year's donation. Due to a
decrease in the size of the graduating class our ticket sales income is projected to
decrease by nearly $2000.00. We are increasing ticket prices this year b. ut are still
faced with the $2000.00 shortfall. We are counting on the city to help us.
We would like to be included on the agenda for the City Council Meeting for
February 19, 1996.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (714) 838-4648.
Sincerely,
ete Seitz
