DISCUSSION
On November 21, 1995, former Cultural Resources Committee Member
Warren Lortie submitted his letter of resignation. Consequently,
on February 5, 1996, the City Council directed staff to advertise
to fill the vacated position. The term for this position expires
on July 19, 1997.
Notices were published in the Tustin Weekly on February 16, 1996
and February 23, 1996. These notices described the desired and
required qualifications for the position. Because the City of
Tustin is recognized as a Certified Local Government (CLG) by the
State Office of Historic Preservation, special consideration must
be given to applicants with expertise in historic preservation-
related disciplines.

As no applications were received prior to the March 7, 1996
deadline, the advertisement was reopened. A press release was sent
to local newspapers and was published in the Tustin Weekly on March
