HUSTON, CITY MANAGER COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT FEE WAIVER - DINOSAUR DASH SUMMARY: The Tustin Public Schools Foundation has requested City Council to waive staff, equipment and permit fees for the 1996 Dinosaur Dash. RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the City Council FISCAL IMPACT: In 1995, the costs to the city for Public Works staff totalled $3782. Of this total, 46 hours ($1128) were attributed to regular time and 77.5 hours ($2654) attributed to overtime. Public Works equipment usage totalled $415. The Dinosaur Dash is not a budgeted item in the fiscal year 1996-97 budget. Police Department costs in 1995, specifically overtime, was $850. The 1996 staff expenses are not budgeted and will be considered as overtime. DISCUSSION: The Tustin Public Schools Foundation will be hosting the siXth annual Dinosaur Dash on Sunday, November 17, 1996. The event has served as a major fundraiser for the Foundation. The 1995 event saw 1,000 participants competing in the adult 5K and 10K races. Approximately 1,500 children participated in the 2K races. Sports Division Supervisor Darin Loughrey will serve as staff liaison for the 1996 event. City staff from the Police and Public Works will handle traffic control. In addition to City staff and equipment, the Foundation is requesting that the City Council waive all fees for permits. A copy of this request is included as an attachment.
