AWARD 'OF CONTRACT FOR ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND CURB AND GWITER
REPAIR PROJECT, FY 1996-97 (PROJECT NO. 4020-6235)
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of December 2, 1996, award the subject contract to Vart
Construction in the amoum of $178,967.90.
FISCAL IMPACT
This project is funded in the 1996-97 FY Public Works Department Operating Budget (Account No. 010-400-4020-
6235) with the amount of $235,000.00 This work is part of the City's on-going maintenance of effort requirements for
compliance with Measure M.
BACKGROUND
Bids for the subject project were opened November 14, 1996. There were eleven (11) bids received and the results
are as follows:

9. Damon Construction, Carson $218,832.70
10. EBS, Inc., Tustin $267,489.69
11. Corydon Construction, Riverside -- $291,792.23
This project will provide for the removal and replacement of portland cement concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter and
drive aprons to correct tripping hazards at approximately 400 locations throughout the City. At eight of these
locations, it will be required to remove a total often street trees for the following reasons.

One street tree is causing damage to an adjacent block wall
Five street trees require removal to provide a sidewalk meeting ADA requirements.
Four street trees are causing damage to adjacent catch basins.
These tree removals will be coordinated through the Fidd Services Division and the City's tree trimming contractor.
