HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION REQUEST TO REMOVE PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON MYFORD ROAD AND SUBJECT: HERITAGE WAY (ARCADA CONDOMINIUM DEVELOPMENT -EAST TUSTIN TRACT NO. 13096) RECOMMENDATIONS: It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of March 11 1993, continue this item until further notice. BACKGROUND: At the City Council meeting of December 21, 1993, the Council considered an item entitled, "Request to Remove Parking Restrictions on Myford Road and Heritage Way". After considerable discussion of the item, the Council directed staff to conduct an internal study to consider easing parking restrictions on Myford Road and Heritage Way. The aforementioned study was completed by staff and was placed on the Council agenda of February 16, 1993. At the February 16, 1993 Council meeting, it was requested by Councilmember Potts to continue this item until the March 1, 1993 meeting. On February 24, 1993, the City received a letter from Mr. James C. Barnes, an Arcada Community resident, requesting that this item be continued until further notice. A copy of the subject letter is attached for your information. DISCUSSION: The Engineering Division staff is currently reviewing the site plan of the Arcada Condominium Development from the standpoint of identifying possible opportunities for additional on-site parking. At this time, staff has met with the City's Community Development Department and the Orange County Fire Department for input into this issue. After the City and the Fire Department have had the opportunity to review and comment on this issue, the Engineering Division will present the results of the investigation to the Arcada Community Association and to the City Council. Leslie Pontius, Mayor City of Tustin 15222 Del Amo Tustin, California 92680 Dear Mayor Pontius: I wish to request that the petition to lift parking restrictions on Myford Road and Heritage Way adjacent to the Arcada Community be continued until further notice. Doug Anderson has advised me that the possibility exists to obtain more parking spaces within the Arcada Community by removing some of the fire lane restrictions which may not be necessary. This would be a preferable alternative to street parking. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance Sincerely, James C. Barnes cc: Doug Anderson Dept. Public Works 5598C/rb
