TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS/ENGINEERING
SUBJECT: CALIFORNIA STREET WIDENING/ RECONSTRUCTION BETWEEN THIRD STREET
AND MAIN STREET
RECOMMENDATIONS:
For consideration by the City Council, at their meeting of February 16,
1993, it is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached
resolution approving the plans and specifications for subject project
and directing the City Clerk to advertise for bids.
BACKGROUND:
This project includes the addition of portland cement concrete sidewalk,
curb and gutter, drive approaches and driveways, as well as deeplift
asphalt concrete paving to widen the street section of California
Street, between Third Street and Main Street, from an existing average
of 28 feet to a minimum of 35 feet. Due to two old, large trees and
private improvements existing within the proposed improvement site on
the westerly side of California Street, it is proposed that sidewalk be
installed solely on the easterly side. The engineer's estimate for this
project is $35,879.75.
Presently there is $28,260.00 available in the Capital Improvement
Project budget for this project. It is being anticipated that after the
bid opening, additional funding may be necessary to complete this
project.
The tentative schedule for this project is as follows:
Authorization to advertise for bids ............ February 16, 1993
First Legal Advertisement ...................... March 4, 1993
Second Legal Advertisement ..................... March 11, 1993
