.►ATE:
NOVEMBER 2 1992 Inter -Com
TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS - ASPHALT CONCRETE
REHABILITATION AND OVERLAY PROJECT, 1991-92 FY, PHASE I
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of
November 2, 1992, adopt the attached Resolution accepting said work
and authorizing the recordation of the Notice of Completion.
Assuming no claims or stop payment notices are filed, it is further
recommended that 35 days after the date of recordation of the
Notice of Completion, that the Council authorize payment of the
final 10% retention in the amount of $47, 390.04. This amount.
together with previous payments of $426,510.35 represents 1000 of
the final contract amount.
BACKGROUND:
This project encompassed crack routing/sealing, pavement patching
and repair, construction of rubberized asphalt concrete overlay,
construction of asphalt concrete overlay over fabric, and striping
and markings of all the residential streets within Peppertree and
Laurelwood Homes, as well as Woodland Drive, north of Bryan Avenue.
This project also included, as added work by a contract change
order initiated by the City, the rehabilitation and resurfacing of
Franklin Avenue and Myford Road, between Dow Avenue and Michelle
Drive, in the industrial area. The original contract amount of
$359,782.97 was 21.6% below the Engineer's estimate of $459,029.10.
The increase in quantity for the contract change order takes
advantage of the highly competitive unit prices of this contract.
The final cost of this extra work is $103,970.57.
This work has been completed to the satisfaction of the Engineering
Division. The final contract amount is $473,900.39. This
represents an increase of 31.7 percent from the original contract
amount of $359,782.97, but 3.14 percent over the Engineer's
estimate, due to the extra work as specified above.
