FROM:
RESIDENT REQUEST TO REVIEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYNCHRONIZATION ON
SUBJECT: TUSTIN RANCH ROAD BETWEEN BRYAN AVENUE AND WALNUT AVENUE
RECOMMENDATIONS
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND
At the October 5, 1992 City Council meeting, Ms. Jane Anderson, a
resident of the City of Tustin, expressed concern with the current
traffic signal synchronization on Tustin Ranch Road between Bryan
Avenue and Walnut Avenue. The City Council requested staff to
review this issue and report back findings of the investigation.
DISCUSSION
The Engineering Division staff has been in the process of
developing a traffic signal coordination scheme for Tustin Ranch
Road and as of October 9, 1992, a preliminary coordination plan has
been implemented between Heritage Way and Auto Center Drive. As
with any traffic signal coordination plan, the major roadway
(Tustin Ranch Road) is given priority, which means motorists may
experience minor delays on side -streets.
Currently, interconnect facilities are in place in Tustin Ranch
Road to coordinate with the Caltrans traffic signals at both I-5
Freeway ramps. Staff is currently coordinating with Caltrans to
develop and implement a plan to extend the Tustin Ranch Road
traffic signal coordination system to include the I-5 Freeway
ramps.
Staff will continue to monitor the traffic signal coordination
system along Tustin Ranch Road between Heritage Way and Auto Center
Drive and make adjustments in the plan as needed.
This is an information only report and no City Council action other
than receive and file is necessary at this time.
