SATE: SEPTEMBER 21, 1992
TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: DISPOSITION OF SURPLUS CALTRANS PROPERTY
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
At the August 25, 1992 Town Hall meeting a resident raised the
question of what happens with the surplus property(s) created by
the Caltrans I-5/SR-55 Interchange Reconstruction Project.
DISCUSSION:
This discussion will pertain to all the Caltrans freeway projects
within Tustin and will not be limited to only the I-5/SR-55
Interchange Reconstruction Project.
Caltrans disposes of all surplus properties through a public
sale/bidding process. Prior to offering any surplus property for
sale to the public, Caltrans will contact the local public
jurisdiction to inform them of the availability of the surplus
parcel(s). Usually, the local jurisdictions will have about thirty
days to express their interest to purchase the parcel(s). In the
event the local jurisdiction does not desire to acquire the surplus
parcel(s), then Caltrans will offer the parcel(s) to the general
public under a competitive bidding process.
Public inquiries on Caltrans surplus properties can be made
directly to Mr. Ralph Neal, Deputy District Director, Right -of -Way
Section, located at 2501 Pullman Street, Santa Ana.
The City has previously expressed an interest to Caltrans in
acquiring several of the surplus parcels for potential water well
sites. As of this date and because of the current status of the
Caltrans construction projects we have not received any reply to
our inquiry.
