DATE: AUGUST 31, 1992 1 `/
TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: RONALD A. VAULT, DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
SUBJECT: STATUS OF GREAT WESTERN RECLAMATION REFUND
RECOMMENDATION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
At their meeting of August 3, 1992 the City Council, with the
absence of Councilmember Saltarelli, was divided as to whether the
$109,000 refund from the 1991-92 trash fees should be held in trust
to offset estimated 1993/94 rate increases or should be credited
against the proposed 1992/93 rates. This item was continued until
the next meeting so that the full Council would be available to
make a decision. In the meantime, the trash rates were forwarded to
the County to meet the August 10, 1992 deadline without adjustment
for the potential refund.
If the City Council were to direct staff to refund the approximate
$15.50 per unit we will need to issue about 7,000 checks. This
will require some additional computer programming and outside
handling and postage for a total cost estimated to be about
$4,700.00, approximately $.70 per check.
