HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: FREEWAY CONSTRUCTION STATUS REPORT (P.W. FILE NO 896) RECOMMENDATION Receive and file. BACKGROUND Following information relates to both freeway and local street closures as they pertain to the Tustin Area. Route 55 northbound off -ramp to Irvine Boulevard/4th Street tentatively scheduled to open in March, 1993. Route 55 southbound on-ramp from Seventeenth Street was closed for reconstruction on April 17, 1992 and opened on June 18, 1992. ° Main Street. (closure No. 1) between Williams Street and Stoneglass was closed on May 5, 1992 and is scheduled to open in late February, 1993. Main Street closure No. 2 between Myrtle Avenue and Stoneglass tentatively scheduled between early -1993 and mid-1993 (5 months). This closure will not be implemented until closure No. 1 is opened to traffic. First Street bridge across Route 55 is scheduled for opening March, 1993. ° Nisson Road between Pasadena Avenue and "B" Street was closed to through traffic on March 18, 1992 aAd is scheduled to open partially by the end of this month. This partial opening consists of 24' wide street -with curb and gutter on the south side and concrete barrier on the north side. .The ultimate construction is tentatively scheduled between early -1993 and mid-1993. Local residential traffic can access from "B" Street on the east side. I-5 northbound on-ramp from Newport Avenue was closed for reconstruction in late May, 1992 and opened on August 10, 1992. I-5 northbound on-ramp from Tustin Ranch Road is scheduled to open by the end of this month. The above schedule was furnished by the Caltrans Resident Engineers and is subject to weather conditions. Caltrans and St. Jeanne DeLestonnac School officials have reached a preliminary agreement that the school may retain its driveway access to Main Street, at least in a limited form. A remaining unresolved issue is .iow wide would the driveway be constructed. The width would directly ...._.Freeway Construction Status Report ugust 17, 1992 gage 2 affect the cost of the driveway construction and Caltrans has said that if it approves the retention of the driveway the school would have to pay for the cost of reconstruction which could run as high as $150,000. Apparently, the school is still considering construction of the wider driveway at their own expense. Staff will continue to update this item as information is received from either Caltrans or St. Jeanne's DeLestonnac School. 00, Robert S.
