HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION TRAFFIC STUDY AT TME INTERSECTION OF EL CAMINO REAL AND ORANGE STREET RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of December 6 1993, receive and file this report. ' FISCAL IMPACT: It is estimated that the cost of preparing a traffic study at the noted intersection is approximately $2,000.00. Funding for this study can be absorbed within the current Engineering Division budget. BACKGROUND- · At the November 15, 1993 City Council meeting, Mayor Potts expressed concern regarding school children crossing E1 Camino Real at Orange Street. It was indicated that there currently is not a marked crosswalk at that intersection. Engineering Division staff was directed by the City Council, at the November 15, 1993 meeting, to prepare a report investigating the possible installation of a crosswalk or additional traffic control devices at the subject intersection. DISCUSSION: The Engineering Division staff has started the traffic investigation of the subject location and is in the process of gathering data that will be used in the analysis of this item. The Tustin Police Department will be notified that a study of this area is being prepared and their input will be solicited. Engineering Division staff will al'so be coordinating its efforts with the Tustin Unified School District due to the proximity of this intersectiOn with Tustin High School. Upon completion of the study and analysis, the Engineering Division will present its findings to the City Council for their consideration at a future meeting early in the new year.
