Pankey Wells.

Improvement Project authorized by City Council.
(Project No. 600100)
BACKGROUND
The Tustin Water Service operates the Beneta, Prospect, and Pankey Wells which produce water
which meets drinking water standards, but it~is near the upper limit for nitrate content. A daily
sample is collected from each well when it is operating, and it is delivered to a private
laboratory for analysis. This insures that water pumped into the system does not exceed the
limit for nitrates.
DISCUSSION:
The State Department of Health Services, Office of Drinking Water, encourages the use of
automation whenever possible. Installation of the nitrate monitors will provide automatic shut-
down of wells if nitrates exceed pre-set limits, and will reduce the need to deliver daily samples
to private laboratories.
