BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: At the City Council meeting on May 17, 1993, staff provided the Council with areas of concern which could cause significant cost overruns for the project (Attachment 1). Cost estimates are currently, being refined. Staff will continue to work with the project consultants to develop design alternatives for reducing any significant cost concerns. At this meeting, Councilmember Saltarelli asked staff to prepare a report which analyzes project funding. Staff will provide the City Council with updated project estimates, design alternatives and funding expected to be available at the time of construction. This report will be available for discussion at the June 21, 1993 meeting. Based on the direction the Council provides, the project consultants will complete the remainder of the preparation of working drawings and bid documents. At the May 20, 1993 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the commission approved revised playground designs for the Sports Park. Staff has also coordinated the grading plans of the park and neighboring school to ensure efficient construction and compatible use. ~T%ntrisuC~ervisor Susan M. While currently in progress, the cost re-evaluation and alternative design development will add approximately 30 days to the schedule.
