SPORTS PARK UPDATE - JUNE 7, 1993
Receive and file.
Not applicable.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
At the City Council meeting on May 17, 1993, staff provided the
Council with areas of concern which could cause significant cost
overruns for the project (Attachment 1). Cost estimates are
currently, being refined. Staff will continue to work with the
project consultants to develop design alternatives for reducing any
significant cost concerns.
At this meeting, Councilmember Saltarelli asked staff to prepare a
report which analyzes project funding. Staff will provide the City
Council with updated project estimates, design alternatives and
funding expected to be available at the time of construction. This
report will be available for discussion at the June 21, 1993
meeting. Based on the direction the Council provides, the project
consultants will complete the remainder of the preparation of
working drawings and bid documents.
At the May 20, 1993 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the
commission approved revised playground designs for the Sports Park.
Staff has also coordinated the grading plans of the park and
neighboring school to ensure efficient construction and compatible
use.

it was found that there is
overruns. The architect is currently
the project based on the following
Addition of a large transformer and pad.
IRWD may require a booster pump for the irrigation system.
Addition of fire sprinklers and fire hydrant to serve the site
structures.
civil corrections increase the scope of work at the storm
drain system.
Jogging track and related lighting add cost.
Building design appears to be more expensive than budgeted.
At the city Council meeting on May 3, 1993, the council was informed
that staff has asked the architect to stop work on the bid documents.
The project was put on hold to provide time to re-evaluate the cost
estimate and develop design alternatives before proceeding any further.
While currently in progress, the cost re-evaluation and alternative
design development will add approximately 30 days to the schedule.
Staff will provide a report on the updated cost estimate at the June 7th
· meeting.
