As a result of the 50% plan check comments, it was found that there is
a potential for significant cost overruns. The architect is currently
developing revised estimates for the project based on the following
areas of concern:
Addition of a large transformer and pad.
IRWD may reguire a booster pump for the irrigation system.
Addition of fire sprinklers and fire hydrant to serve the site
structures.
Civil corrections increase the scope of work at the storm
drain system.
Jogging track and related lighting add cost.
Building design appears to be more expensive than budgeted.
At the City Council meeting on May 3, 1993, the Council was informed
that staff has asked the architect to stop work on the bid documents.
The project was put on hold to provide time to re-evaluate the cost
estimate and develop design alternatives before proceeding any further.
While currently in progress, the cost re-evaluation and alternative
design development will add approximately 30 days to the schedule.
Staff will provide a report on the updated cost estimate at the June 7th
meeting.
