HUSTON, CITY MANAGER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FROM: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: COMPUTER EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION Receive and file. FISCAL CONSIDERATIONS The 1992-1993 Redevelopment Agency Budget authorizes $4,400 for the purchase of computer hardware. The purchase price for the two (2) work stations, installation, first year maintenance and tax would be $4,375. BACKGROUND The City Manager has waived the public bid process pursuant to City Code Section 1624b, Bidding Exceptions, for the purchase of two (2) new computer work stations for the Redevelopment Project Manager (recruitment closed) and the existing Housing Rehabilitation Officer (part time position) in the Community Development Department. This request was made on the grounds that a public bid process for such equipment would be impractical and incongruous. Not all computer vendors deal with corporate and network installations. It is also essential that the selected equipment be compatible with the existing equipment in the department. Pursuant to City Code Section 1624b(3), this report is to inform the City Council of the City Manager's action. DISCUSSION In November 1991, the Community Development Department computer network system was installed by Forbes Computers. The new equipment would add additional work stations to this system. It is extremely important that the specifications of the work stations match those that are already on-line. Consistency would also be maintained in the maintenance contract for all department computer equipment. To date, the system has not had any down time. Award of Contract Community Development Department Computer Equipment April 5, 1993 Page 2 The quote received from Forbes Computer included faster computers with the same minimum specifications for the same price that was charged with the installation last year and is within the 1992-1993 Redevelopment Agency budget as mentioned above. Forbes Computer has a proven track record with AST equipment and maintenance in all departments of the City. CONCLUSION The City Manager has waived the public bid process for the purchase of additional computer equipment in the Community Development Department. Pursuant to City Code Section 1624b(3), this report is to inform the City Council of the City Manager's action. Daniel F&k 4Assline A. Shin ton Senior Planner stant City Ma ger CAS:DF:compbid4.df
