HONORABLE MAYOR ANDMEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
LEG~ SERVICES STUDY
The City Council directed staffto prepare a report which compares
the City's legal fees with other similar cities. Staff is in the
process of preparing the report which includes ten California
cities that are comparable to Tustin. The survey includes cities
that contract for legal services and cities that have staff
attorneys.
The report was to have been completed in late September. Due to
difficulties in obtaining reliable data, the report will not be
completed until later this month. Because cities account for legal
fees in different ways, it has taken longer than had been
anticipated to obtain data that can be' considered accurate and
provide the basis for a sound comparison. Another consideration
for a delay is that two other cities are in the process of
completing similar studies. It would be helpful to obtain them
(both of which are anticipated to be finished this month) so as to
provide another means to compare legal costs.
It is recommended that the City Council continue this item to the
November 7, 1994 meeting.
