HUSTON, CITY MANAGER OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK BUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 187 (ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION) RECOMMEND___ATION Adopt Resolution No. 94-105 declaring support for Proposition 187. BACKGROUND At the August 15, 1994 City Council meeting, staff was directed to prepare a resolution endorsing Proposition 187 regarding the enforcement of immigration laws. Resolution No. 94-105 is modeled after the sample resolution provided by the Save Our State Committee. Valerie Crabill Chief Deputy City Clerk 1 4 5 6 ? $ 9~ 10 11 15 14 15 16 17 18 19 21 24 25 26 2~ RESOLUTION NO. 94-1u_ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING PROPOSITION 187 OF THE CITY OF SUPPORT FOR WHEREAS, the people of California have suffered and are suffering the consequences caused by the presence of illegal aliens in this community; and WHEREAS, many of the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who enter California every year use public funded services which reduces the availability of such services for the citizens and legal residents of our community; and WHEREAS, many of the illegal aliens who come to California utilize false documents to obtain employment in violation of Federal Law, Immigration and Nationality Act: Unlawful Employment of Aliens, Sec. 274A [8 USC 1324a]; and WHEREAS, many of the illegal aliens who come to or reside in California present a burden to our law enforcement services and a threat to the public safety of our citizens and legal residents; and WHEREAS, the Federal Government has failed to enforce its own laws and the State Government has failed to support new laws for the protection of the people of the City of Tustin, and in the State of California it has become necessary for the people to utilize the initiative process and act on their own behalf for their own self-protection; and WHEREAS, the people have illustrated their support of Proposition 187, the Save Our State initiative, and qualified it for the November ballot, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of 'the City of Tustin, California, hereby endorses Proposition 187 and urges the electors of this city to vote "yes" at the time of the General Election (November 8, 1994) and does, here and now, endorse this initiative that represents the enforcement of our i~tmigration laws and will support those concepts within the confines of the City of Tustin whose elected representatives reconfirm their oath of office to uphold the constitution and direct the lives and welfare of our citizens and legal residents.
