HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL AT 14631 KIMBERLY CIRCLE RECOMMENDATION Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT None DISCUSSION In September 1993, Mr. Joe Borzellino, owner of the property at 14631 Kimberly Circle, requested that the Tristania Street Tree in front of his residence be removed for the following reasons: 1. The tree is dirty and ruins the finish on his tenant's cars. The tree drops hard sharp nuggets on the sidewalk that are hazardous to skateboarders, rollerbladers and hurtful to children who walk by in bare feet. Existing tree does not conform to the size and shape of other trees on the cul-de-sac. The tree looks out of place and detracts from the streets appearance. As a follow-up to Mr. Borzellino's request, staff mailed five inquiry letters to residents either side of 14631 Kimberly and immediately across the street as to whether these property owners would be opposed to the requested tree removal. Three neighboring property owners were in agreement with the removal and two property owners did not respond· In November 1993, staff responded to Mr. Borzellino with a denial of his request for tree removal. This denial was based upon the tree being a healthy speciman and it was estimated that the tree had an additional 10 years before it would need to be removed· The tree was scheduled for trimming in November 1993 and the trimming was completed· DISCUSSION In July 1994, Mr. Borzellino requested the tree be re-evaluated for removal. The tree was re-evaluated at that time and the request was denied. The requesting party wanted to pursue the tree removal further which has resulted this item being agendized for the City Councils final decision. Request for Tree Removal at 14631 Kimberly Circle September 6, 1994 Page 2 Based upon current policy and the tree being a healthy speciman and not causing any damage to the sidewalk or curb and gutter, staff cannot recommend the removal of this Tristania Tree at 14632 Kimberly Circle.
