HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL 2221 SILK TREE DRIVE RECO~,~IENDATION Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT None BACKGROUND Staff has received a request from Mr. Bill Davis to have the Carrotwood Street Tree removed from in front of his residence at 2221 Silk Tree Drive and have no replacement tree planted. Several months ago the original Carrotwood Street Tree was removed due to its root growth displacing the sidewalk/curb and gutter. The root system was also surfacing at ground level and precluded the growth and maintenance of the vegetation within the parkway area between the sidewalk and the curb and gutter. The original Carrotwood Tree was planted as City policy at the time the Peppertree Homes were developed in the mid 1970's. DISCUSSION It is my understanding that at the time of the original tree removal, the resident requested that no replacement tree be planted. Current City policy requires replacement trees for all removals except when the replacement would create a visual obstruction to traffic or impact pedestrian traffic. A replacement tree has been planted at 2221 Silk Tree Drive and the resident is again requesting that the tree be removed so he may proceed with the landscaping of his parkway.
