Burke Corporation, of Tustin, in the amount of $565,193. Subsurface Well Constxuction (Completed) Wellhead Design (Completed) Wellhead Construction Contract $358,600 - $120,000 - $565.193 Total Cost for Completed Well $1,043,793 I_ess Reimbursed Portion from Orange County Water District ($750.000) Balance Funded from Certificates of Participation (Bonds Proceeds) $293,793 BACKGROUND: At its meeting of May 2, 1994, City Council authorized advertisement for bids for this project. Bids were opened on July 7, 1994, and received as follows: P.R. Burke Corporation Schuler Engin~ring Pascal and Ludwig Allsup Corporation Caliagua S.S. Mechanical $565,193 $570,518 $579,023 $580,067 $620,626 $629,160 The low bid, by P.R. Burke Corporation, was 14% below the engineer's estimate of $655,000. The contractor's references have been verified and past job performance has been satisfactory. AWARD OF CONTKACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF VANDENBERG WELL WELLHEAD FACILITIES, PROJECT NO. 600065 July 18, 1994 Page 2 DISCUSSION: Vandenberg Well will be a significant new source of supply for the city's water system. D~ta obtained during testing indicates that the water produced will be of excellent quality, and will allow the city to produce nearly 75% of its supply from groundwater. Additionally, at current imported water rates, this well will reduce the city's annual water supply cost by $420,000.
