HUSTON, CITY MANAGER REQUEST BY HISTORIC SOCIETY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Attached is a letter from the Historic Society requesting that the City provide financial assistance to the Society by paying its annual rent of $5,700. If the city Council decided to provide financial assistance, it would be necessary to apPropriate funds from the General Fund. Because public funds would be used, it would be necessary to prepare an agreement between the City and Society regarding use of the funds (for rent) and any other terms the City Council feels appropriate. The City Council would also need to decide whether the agreement should be for a fixed period or renewed annually. The City Council might also want to consider whether any future financial assistance would be phased out or if continued, under what conditions. Attachment histsoc.wah HAY 3 ! t99 P.O. As was stated in a previous letter to the Council, the Tustin Area Histori- cal Society can not continue to take from the reserve funds to finance our increased overhead to keep the museum open. When the museum moved into its present quarters in 1978, the rent was $250 per month, of which the City of Tustin paid $100. The rent has increased to $475 per month and the City no longer contributes any monies. We trust the City of Tustin values the importance of the Tustin Museum and its related programs - helping people appreciate Tustin's history and growth and development, promoting pride, and improving the quality of our community. We confidently believe that if the City of Tustin could assume the full financial responsibility of providing for the housing of the Tustin Museum, currently $475 per month, the TAHS could through its other fund raising programs, continue to operate the museum and its programs. We await your reply. Sincerely, cc: City Manager Tustin Area Museum -- 395 El Camino Real - Tustin
