As directed by the City Council at their May 2, 1994 meeting, staff
has placed advertisements in the. Tustin News and Tustin Weekly
informing residents of these vacancies. The advertisements request
that applications be Submitted for Commission vacancies by May3/~t~
and June 30th-.for the Water Board (Attachment A). At the first
city council meeting following the deadlines, staff will agendize
the applications for City Council action.
During_ the last replacement process for Commission/Committee
vacancies, some Councilmembers had expressed confusion when Using
the current balloting system (Attachment B) and questioned if a
public written ballot was necessary. A public written ballot is
not required; however, City Council votes to appoint a
Commission/Committee member are required to be part of the public
record.

Suggested voting options available to the City Council are (1)
continue using the current written ballot or a variation thereof,
(2) use the nomination/majority vote process, (3) each
Councilmember appoints their "own" Commission/Committee member or
(4) implement another voting system desirable to the City Council.

CITY OF TUSTIN
SEEKS APPLICANTS TO SERVE ON
PLANNING COMMISSION
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
AND WATER CORPORATION BOARD
Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission:
The City of Tustin is currently taking applications from residents who are
interested in serving on the Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation
Commission. Three positions on the Planning Co.mmission and three positions
on the Parks and Recreation Commission will' become available in July due to
termexpirations. Upon review of applicants, the City Council may extend the
terms of existing Commissioners or make new appointments.
The Planning Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of
each month to .evaluate development proposals and submit recommendations to
the City CounCil regarding land use matters in the City. Terms are for two
years and applicants are required to be a registered voter ih'the'City.
The Parks and R..ecreation-Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Thursday
bim0nthly~-to ~serve as an advisory body to the City Council. ~aDd Community
Services staff.on all matters relating to parks, park design and deVelopment,
creation, and community services. · Terms 'are for two Years and applicants
_he required to be a resident of the city.,.
Tustin Water corPoration Board
The City is also seeking applicants to fill one vacant position on the Board
of Directors of the City of Tustin Water Corporation. This is a non-profit
corporation that meets once a year to review the annual lease between the
City and the Corporation. Terms are served until resignation and the
applicant must be a resident of the City of Tustin water service area.
The deadlines for filing applications are: 5:30 p.m. on May 25, 1994, for
Planning Commission and Parks and ReCreation Commission; and 5:30 p.m. on
June 30, 1994, for Water Corporation Board.
