RENOVATION (CIP No. 20072)
SUMMARY:
This project includes the purchase and installation of playground equipment and ADA
required playground surfacing and entry ramps at Frontier Park.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 15-67, approving
specifications for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at Frontier
Park (CIP No. 20072) and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Frontier Park Playground Renovation is funded with a combination of Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Park Development dollars as part of the 2015-
2016 Capital Improvement Program. The total estimated cost for the project is $195,000.
CORRELATION TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN:
This project advances Goal A of the City of Tustin Strategic Plan regarding Economic and
Neighborhood Development by making improvements to existing parks to expand
recreational activities.
BACKGROUND:
The playground equipment at Frontier Park (1400 Mitchell Avenue) is almost 15 years
old and in need of replacement. The Community Services Commission has identified
the upgrade of this playground as next in line on their seven-year CIP priority list.
The new playground's "Old West" themed design will feature custom elements and
include areas for both 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds. These areas will also feature
engineered wood fiber playground surfacing and entry ramps as required for ADA
compliance.
