Other Actions Taken
1. The turf removal program continues to be successful. The Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California (Metropolitan) first opened this program in 2014 and has authorized
a total of $450 million for turf removal throughout the service area. To date, the City of
Tustin has received 240 applications for this program totaling approximately 436,465

square feet of turf proposed for removal. This estimate is refined as staff conducts initial
inspections to ensure individual properties meet the program requirements.
In a press release dated July 8, 2015, Metropolitan announced the program was closing
to new applications because all available funding was fully allocated. Applications
received since that time are being held on a wait list, which includes 25 applications from
Tustin Water Services customers. MWDOC has indicated that the applications will be
released in December.
2. Code enforcement statistics for the month of August 2015 have been provided as an
attachment to this report.
Upcoming
1. A postcard will be mailed to customers this month with a reminder that watering days will
be decreased to one day per week beginning November 1 and asking them to remain
vigilant about indoor water use and the need to continue conservation efforts. Generally,
we use less water outdoors during the winter. Therefore, it may be difficult to sustain the
impressive conservation numbers that were achieved during the summer without looking
for ways to save water indoors.
