SUBJECT:
WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
ROBERT S. LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER
APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL MODIFICATION AT RED HILL
AVENUE AND IRVINE BOULEVARD
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the City Council at their meeting of January 17,
1994 adopt the attached Resolution-approving the plans and specifications
and authorizing the advertisement for bids for the modification of the
traffic signal at the intersection of Red Hill Avenue/Irvine Boulevard.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Engineer's estimate for this project is $79,000.00 and is identified
for funding in the City's FY 93-94.Capital Improvement Program. Through '
a previously approved agreement, the County of Orange will finance 50%
of the construction of this project.
DISCUSSION:
This project will provide for the modification of the traffic signal at
Red Hill Avenue/Irvine Boulevard by installing left-turn phasing for
traffic in the Red Hill Avenue direction. Since the City of
Tustin/County of Orange boundary runs along the centerline of Red Hill
AVenue, and the City maintains the traffic signal for the entire
intersection, the County has agreed to fund their fair share (50%) of
improvements at the subject location. The County is currently in the
process of'finalizing an agreement, previously approved by the City
CDuncil, for implementation of this project.
The work will include all labor, material, tools, equipment,
appurtenances and incidentals for the modification of the traffic signal,
lighting, traffic loop detectors, and wheelchair access ramp improvements
as detailed on the plans and specifications for this project.
The tentative schedule for this project is as follows:
