SUBJEC~ STATUS UPDATE - TRAFFIC STUDY AT THE INTERSECTION OF EL CAMINO
REAL AND ORANGE STREET
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of
January 3, 1994, receive and file this report.
FISCAL IMPACT:
At this time, there is no fiscal impact to the City regarding the
preparation of this repOrt.
BACKGROUND:
At the November 15, 1993 City Council meeting, Mayor Potts
expressed concern regarding school children crossing E1 Camino Real
at Orange Street. It was indicated that there currently is not a
marked crosswalk at that intersection.
The Engineering Division was directed by the City Council, at the
December 6, 1993 meeting, to prepare a report utilizing existing
City resources, investigating the possible installation of a
crosswalk or additional traffic control devices at the subject
intersection.
DiscussION:
The Engineering Division has started the traffic investigation of
the subject location and is in the process of analyzing information
from the investigation.
A meeting With the Tustin Police Department, the Tustin Unified
School District, and the staff of Tustin High School was held on
December 16, 1993, to discuss the issues involved with children
crossing El'Camino Real near Tustin High School. We are currently
· waiting for responses from the aforementioned parties, which will
be used in determining the appropriateness of installing a
crosswalk or additional traffic control devices at this location.
Upon completion of the study, the Engineering Division will present
its findings to the City Council for their consideration, at a
future meeting.
