TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
SUSJECI: APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEMBER TO THE MCAS
TUSTIN BASE CLOSURE TASK FORCE
RECOMMENDATION
Pleasure of the Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Administration of the efforts related to the Marine Corps Air
Station (MCAS) Tustin Base Closure Task Force requires the
expenditure of funds from the General Fund which have been
appropriated each year by the City Council. No additional fiscal
impact would occur as a result of Council action on this item.
BACKGROUND/RECOMMENDATION
Since 1991, the City Council has appointed 19 members to the MCAS
Tustin Base Closure Task Force. Membership includes
representatives from surrounding communities, Tustin businesses,
homeowner and other citizen representation, the United States
Marine Corps, and two representatives each from the City Council
and Planning Commission. Since its creation, Task Force membership
has included Ms. Angie Kardashian, representing the Chamber of
'Commerce.
On October 4, 1995, staff received correspondence from the Chamber
of Commerce recommending that Mr. Paul Irby be appointed as the
Chamber's alternate representative in the event that Ms. Kardashian
is unable to attend any future meeting of the Task Force.
Appointment of members to the Task Force is the prerogative of the
Tustin City Council.
CONCLUSION
Staff requests that Council provide direction in this matter or
appoint Mr. Paul IrbY as the Chamber of Commerce's alternate
representative to the Tustin Base Closure Task Force.
