NO. 14

TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: FEE WAIVER - DINOSAUR DASH
RECOMMENDATION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT:..
Last year the cost to the City was about $3,000 for Police and
Public Works staff, permit fees, inspections and use of City
equipment. This year the Tustin Public Schools Foundation is
proposing adding a 10K run. Additional staff costs related to the
iOK run should be about $1,000.
DISCUSSION:
The Tustin Public Schools Foundation will be holding the fourth
annual Dinosaur Dash on November 12, 1995. Last year the event
raised more than $100,000 for the Foundation. The Foundation is
requesting city assistance similar to that provided the past four
years.
Recreation Supervisor Gary Magill will serve as staff liaison for
the event. City staff from the Police and Public Works Department
will handle traffic control.
In addition to City staff and equipment, the Foundation is
requesting that the City Council waive all fees for permits. A
copy of the request is included as an attachment. A representative
from the Foundation will be on hand at the City Council meeting to
make a short presentation and answer any questions.

Re: Dinosaur Dash V
A Benefit for the Tustin Public Schools Foundation
Dear Mayor Ports and Members of the City Council:
We want to thank the City again for its outstanding support of last
year's Dinosaur Dash which raised more than $100,000 for our Tustin
school~. Dinosaur Dash V is being planned for November 12, 1995,
and, as in the last four years, we once again request the
assistance of the City.
City staff has annually set out traffic control devices for the
race and removed them afterwards, and Police/Explorer presence:has
been used as deemed appropriate by the Police Chief. This year wa
hope to add a 10K race along with our traditional 5K. We will be
meeting with traffic engineering staff to design the 10K course.
Community Services acts as our liaison with all other City
departments.
We also respectfully request that the Council once again waive the
applicable fees for any required permits (Temporary Sign, License
to Operate, and Charitable Solicitation) and authorize the use of
staff time as described above.
Should you have any question or require any further information
re'gard±ng Dinosaur Dash V, please contact the TUstin'Public Schools
Foundation at your convenience.
Very truly yours,
TUSTIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION
