HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FMOM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: NEW MEMBER FOR THE TUSTIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECOMMENDATION: Appoint Alan Hirasuna of L'Garde, Inc., Tustin to the Board of Directors of the Tustin Community Foundation. The nomination was supported by the Board of Directors at the May 23, 1995 Regular Meeting of the Tustin Community Foundation Board of Directors. BACKGROUND: The Tustin Community Foundation was established in 1994 by the City Council. As the Foundation Board of Directors prepared for the first'year of operation it became apparent that it was necessary to expand the size of the Board to provide more volunteer leadership to accomplish everything the Board wanted and needed to do. The City Council approved a resolution to expand the Board membership to '"up to fifteen members" at the January 3, 1995 Meeting. Boardmember Jim Farley resigned effective March 1995. currently there are seven members serving on the Board. Alan Hirasuna, of L'Garde, Inc., has been active in the business community through the Tustin Area Chamber. of Commerce. Mr. Hirasuna and his firm were major donors to the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund in 1987. Again his firm, L'Garde, Inc. has pledged financial support to the Tustin Community Foundation and he personally has volunteered his time to assist with Foundation activities. Mr. Hirasuna graciously accepted the Board's invitation to become involved at the May 23, 1995 Regular Meeting. As an active member of the local business community he will bring valuable assistance the Foundation's fundraising efforts. A letter of interest and qualifications from Mr. Hirasuna is attached. Thank you for your invitation and I would be honored to serve on the Tustin Community Foundation board. I am a founder of L'Garde, Inc, which is located in South Tustin near the helicopter base. When we moved from Newport Beach to Tustin in 1986, we resolved to become a good corporate citizen and supporter of Tustin. L'Garde donated to the Tustin Senior Center and I served on the 'fund raising committee. L'Garde also recently donated to the Tustin Community Foundation. L'Garde is a member of the Tustin Chamber and I served as an Ambassador.
