HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF "C" STREET NORTH OF .MITCHELL AVENUE, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) FUNDING 1994-95 FY (PROJECT NO. 200031) RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council, at their meeting of May 15, 1995, adopt the attached - Resolution No. 95-50 approving the plans and specifications for the reconstruction of "C" Street north of Mitchell Avenue and authorizing and directing the City Clerk to advertise for bids. FISCAL IMPACT The Engineer's estimate for this subject project is $99,000.00. The City's Capital Improvement Program/Budget 1994-95 FY provides $159,000.00. Funding for this project is being provided by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies. BACKGROUND Based upon requests from residents and input from staff, the City Council, at their meeting of December 6, 1993, directed staff to include the subject project in the 1994-95 fiscal year CIP budget should funding become available. The City became an entitlement community for CDBG funding beginning with the 1994-95 fiscal year. An application was made to the Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund this project and the funds were granted in the amount of $159,500.00. The project will provide for the removal of the existing street section, curb, drive aprons, parkway trees and sidewalks; and replacement with a new street section, curb and gutter, drive aprons, parkway trees and sidewalk to the City's standards. HSCAL IMPACT The Engineer's estimate for this project is $87,500.00 and will be funded through the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP). BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION This project will provide for the installation of a traffic signal and interconnect at the intersection of E1 Camino Real and Orange Street. The installation of this signal was considered by the City Council at their meeting of February 9, 1994 for school safety purposes and it was subsequently scheduled for implementation in the 94-95 FY CIP. The work will include all labor, material, tools, equipment, appurtenances and incidentals for the subject project as detailed on the plans and specifications for this project.
