HUSTON, CITY MANAGER HISTORICAL SOCIETY RENT RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: The Historical Society is requesting a City'contribution of $5,700 for fiscal year 1995-96. BACKGROUND'. In June 1994, the City Council authorized an agreement with the Historical Society which provided the City would contribute $5,700 in fiscal year 1994-95 toward the Society's rent. Per the attached letter, the Society is requesting an extension of the agreement through June 30, 1996. DISCUSSION: If the City Council approves the Society's request, the current agreement could be.extended through June 30, 1996. The draft 1995- 96 budget would include an appropriation from the General Fund, unless another source of funding can be identified. One option the City Council might want' to consider is -requesting the Tustin Community Foundation to ascertain whether it could provide total or partial funding of the Society's request. Even if Foundation funds are not available at this time, it might want to consider working with the Society to identify a long range funding strategy. Last year the $5,700 contributed by the City to pay the rent on the building where the museUm is housed was a major factor in making 1994 a success both historically and financially. A contribution of $5,700 for 1995 would make it possible for us to continue our activities without spending any of our meager financial reserves. We intend to continue our efforts to gain more members and thus become financially more independent. I am. also interested in following up on your suggestion of my attending meetings concerning the future of. Old Town Tustin. We are available to help the city preserve the history of Tustin and to serve the best interests of its citizens. Thank you again for your interest and support.
