HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: COLUMBUS TUSTIN PHASE 2B IMPROVEMENTS GYMNASIUM RECOMMENDATION To authorize staff to prepare a Request for Proposal for an architect to complete working drawings for the Columbus Tustin gymnasium. BACKGROUND Pursuant to the Council's request, staff has prepared an accelerated schedule for the gymnasium project from the proposed 1993 start of working drawings, as planned in the parks financing report, to 1991. Moving the project forward will save ,approximately 10% of the cost for design and construction, estimated just under $3,000,000. The existing floor plan was developed with citizen's input from the Columbus Tustin Task Force. The f loor plan provides a gymnasium with capability for a championship center court with rollaway seating, a mat room/classroom, storage space, locker rooms, equipment room, office space and a ticket window; roughly 14,000 square feet of space. By authorizing staff to begin our Request for Proposal process and to proceed as planned, the gym could be completed in 1994, two years earlier than originally proposed. Attached for the Council's review is a proposed timeline for the design and construction of the gym. Q, Susan M. Jones Recreation Superintendent Royleen A.
