HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: YOUTH ISSUES COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the Council. BACKGROUND: In response to the School Board action appointing three members to the Joint Youth Issues Committee, Mayor Pro Tem Pontious requested that staff agendize this item for Council discussion. It was suggested by Mayor Pro Tem Pontious, who the Council has already appointed to the Committee, that the City's membership on the Committee also include Gwen Ferguson, Kathy DeMayo. Ms. Ferguson and Ms. DeMayo both have reputations for being active with youth issues in the community. School District representatives on the Joint Committee will include School Board Member Gloria Tuchman, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Susan Welsh, and Linda Hay. At the Joint City Council/School Board meeting held in May, the Council and School Board agreed to establish a joint committee to develop unified policies dealing with child care and youth issues facing the community. This Committee will make specific recommendations regarding public policy, budgeting, facilities, and fund raising efforts to improve the quality of life for Tustin's youth. Additionally, the Committee will define the role that each agency should take in providing youth programs and child care in public facilities. Susan M.
